Replay *final project

Posted in projects by kmb on April 12, 2010

For your final project, remake any artwork from this semester by incorporating new skills or ideas. You can use this project to apply feedback from critiques or to experiment with a new idea. You might …

  • expand one of your sketchbook images into a bigger project
  • turn your print into an installation
  • add sound to your .gif
  • create a light installation from a combination of projects
  • do an assignment in illustrator (instead of Photoshop)

*This “replay” is due Wednesday, April 28th. No late work will be accepted. During studio, we will have a final discussion about your artwork. Monday, April 26th will be an open work day. (more…)

Sketchbook Theme* for two weeks

Posted in sketchbook by kmb on April 5, 2010

For the next two weeks, your sketchbook entries will address the following topic.

Collect 5 net.art pieces that consider the same theme. Choose a theme that is interesting to you! For example, if you love painting then look for Internet Art that refers to painting like Manetas. If you are interested in video games, then look for artwork like Arcangel. Themes can range from Moses to Wikipedia, just don’t choose identity.  Below is a short list of Internet Art exhibitions:

Net Art’s Cyborg[feminist]s, Punks and Manifestos

Location is Everything

ya heard

HTML Color Codes

During this week, think about your theme. Do some initial research to make sure you can find net.art that connects. Do not include art that happens to be displayed on the internet– this should be artwork made for the internet. Read the “Neen Manifesto” for more information about the nature of Internet Art. By Monday, April 12th, write a post that describes your theme and why you chose it.

Next, make 5 sketchbook posts that link and describe your selections. Like last week’s sketchbook, you need to add an “image & link” to your blog. See last week’s post for detailed directions about what to include in each post. This should be finished by Monday, April 19th.

Opportunity for feedback- April 15th

Posted in Uncategorized by kmb on April 5, 2010

An artist who has an exhibition at the Visual Studies Workshop will be coming to UR to meet students and talk about your work. This is a great opportunity. You can also use the time to get feedback about your Virtual Parody project. The details are below. There is an RSVP date for dinner.

Visual Studies Workshop is bringing artist Chris Baker to Rochester in April.  His work “engages the rich collection of social, technological and ideological networks present in the urban landscape.”

Chris will be coming to Sage for a Visual Studies Workshop/ A&AH Dinner on Thursday April 15th from 6-9PM.  Students are invited to install work in the gallery for critique.  Following student critique, dinner will be served in ASIS gallery.  It’s a great opportunity to meet students and faculty from Visual Studies and to talk to Chris about his work.

Please RSVP if you would like to attend the dinner to me by April 13th.

Looking forward to a night of great art at Sage,
Stephanie
